et it be known that another good and faithful brother among us has come to the end of life’s toilsome journey and has dropped the working tools of life.
RW Bro. Russ has gone to that undiscovered country from whose bourne no traveler returns on January 25th, 2023. He had turned 88 just a few weeks ago. He served as our Lodge Secretary for 24 years!
He served in many positions within the Grand Lodge of Illinois and the 5th NE District and has been a mentor to and raised countless MMs. He was Worthy Patron of Betsy Ross Chapter OES many times and was a supporter of Masonic youth groups.
As per his last wishes there will be no services at this time. The family will have a celebration of life in the summer. In his loving memory, in lieu of flowers donations to the Shriner’s Hospital for children or any charity of your choice are appreciated. Click here to donate to Shriners Hospital

R.W. Brother Russell E. Johnson was a Sixty Year Master Mason. Brother Russell was commissioned as a Grand Lecturer on January 6, 1985 and continued his commission until September 16, 2003. From 1990 until 1991 he was appointed to the Academic Bowl Committee. On October 5, 1996, R.W. Bro. Johnson was commissioned as a Grand Lodge Instructor until October 6, 2001. He was appointed to the Masonic Home – La Grange on October 5, 1996 until October 10, 1998. Brother Johnson was appointed as Junior Grand Deacon from October 10, 1998 until October 8, 1999. He was appointed as the District Deputy Grand Master of the 6th Northeastern District on June 21, 1999 through October 6, 2000. He was commissioned, again, as Grand Lodge Instructor on October 4, 2002 until October 10, 2003. Also, on October 4, 2002, R.W. Bro. Johnson was appointed to the Blood Sharing Program Committee until October 8, 2005. On September 16, 2003 he was commissioned as Grand Lecturer Emeritus until his passing. He, again, returned as an appointed DDGM serving the 5th Northeastern District. In addition, Brother Johnson was the elected Secretary of King Oscar Lodge No. 855 for Twenty-Four years.
R.W. Brother Russell E. Johnson passed on January 25, 2023.
Thus endth the record of a just and upright Mason may God rest his soul.
